Jane Arnold, Director Smith of Derby receiving ‘Employer of the Year’ by Chesterfield College Group.

We’d like to offer a huge congratulations to our team at Smith of Derby for winning ‘Employer of the Year’, at the ‘Celebration of Achievement’ ceremony hosted by the Chesterfield College Group.

Jane Arnold, Director at Smith of Derby was presented the award on Tuesday 14th June by Chesterfield College Group.

She said: “It’s an outstanding achievement to be selected out of 1,300 employers. The award recognises our hard work and support we give to our apprentices, both in clock-making and business administration.

Our Clockmaking Company has worked with Learning Unlimited, part of Chesterfield College Group since February 2015.

Mitchell Eaton, one of our apprentice clockmakers, featured to the right, is our first apprentice to work in conjunction with Learning Unlimited, based on Pride Park in Derby.

Mitch, like Sam and Ben, also Smith of Derby Apprentice Clockmakers, is working towards a Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship Framework including a Level 3 City & Guilds 2850 Mechanical Engineering.

This is in recognition of the huge work we all do to support our young people including Kirstie, Annie, Mitch and Sam and Ben, who was out on site when this photo was taken. Jason Glennie, a work-based and college-based tutor, nominated us for the award. He said: “Jane and Paul (Director and Head of Operations) are really understanding and supportive; there’s never an issue with communication and this award is testament to their fantastic job of developing the skills and knowledge of all of their apprentices.

“Mitch, Sam and Ben are eager to learn, hardworking and show real dedication. They’re holding down a full-time job with college homework and NVQ actions, all to do in their own time. They’re a real part of the team.”
