Sam Schoonderwoerd is proud of his achievement as he completes the final stage of his apprenticeship course at Smith of Derby!

Sam started his apprenticeship at Smith of Derby back in 2016 and has now completed his 4-year course in February 2020.  He has achieved Advanced Level Apprenticeship in Engineering Manufacture (Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering) along with City and Guilds Level 3 diploma and BTEC level 3 subsidiary diploma in the same subjects. Sam will continue training and developing with coaching from our experienced team of clockmakers and hands-on experience.

7 months into starting his apprenticeship in September 2016, “I like the wide variety of options we have here, from actually building clocks to the sales and marketing elements, from being office-based to going out on the road with the engineers and up buildings fixing and assembling. It’s such a huge opportunity to learn not just about clocks, but about business. Since I left school, I have always wanted to pursue something in engineering, and this is proper mechanical engineering” Sam stated.

During Sam’s training he was accompanied with a film team to see what is included being an apprentice. The video follows Sam on site visits, annual services and training courses.

Sam is passionate about the practical hands-on work that he does and is reliable, trustworthy and confident to work on his own. He is very important on service calls to clock towers all over the country. We are very proud of our apprenticeships at Smith of Derby and would like to congratulate Sam on his achievements and completing his course, becoming a fully qualified clockmaker!
