Once again, it’s been a busy few weeks both in our Derby works and across our various sites in the UK. Here’s just a few things we have been doing.

Installation and Servicing

So far, the team have serviced an average of 92 clocks per week in 2019 and installed jobs in Oman, Qatar, Ireland and across the UK. Cyprus will soon be added to this list, as two team members head to Girne to install several tower clocks.

Team News

A ‘new starter’ since the last edition of NewsTIME is Charlie Corr who has joined the Planning team. Not wasting any time, Charlie has got stuck in to the role and also joins the lads outside to get real hands-on experience.

Clockmaker Matthew Smith started with our company in 2006 and moved to Buckinghamshire where he began to research the county’s many belfries, resulting in Matthew writing a book entitled “Buckinghamshire Bells and Belfries”.  The book has been published in March of this year and the company are proud to hold copies at the Derby Works.

‘Out and About’

Tim Barlow spotted a grass snake in a local church yard recently whilst completing an annual service. Bees, bats, pigeons, snakes… all in the job for a Smith of Derby clockmaker!

Works Visit

Recently the works received a knock on the door from a family from Australia who were touring the UK. Mum and dad, Julie and Andrew, were taking their children, Bella, Will and Alice, on a family tour – looking up old family connections! The family are descendants of John Whitehurst, who of course was influential in the beginnings of Smith of Derby Clockmakers.

Stover School, Devon

“Thank you very much for the provision of this quote, following Paul’s visit and inspection. Can I first say how appreciative I was of Paul’s nature, expertise and understanding of the situation. He is a very professional chap!”
