Sam Schoonderwoerd is proud of his achievement

Sam Schoonderwoerd is proud of his achievement as he completes the final stage of his apprenticeship course at Smith of Derby! Sam started his apprenticeship at Smith of Derby back in 2016 and has now completed his 4-year course in February 2020.  He has achieved Advanced Level Apprenticeship in Engineering Manufacture (Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering) along with City and Guilds Level 3 diploma and BTEC level 3 subsidiary diploma in the same subjects. Training Week at Smith of Derby 2020

Every January a week is put aside for training at Smith of Derby and 2020 has been no different. Last month our clockmakers travelled to our Derby works from their various locations across the UK, to take part in a week of training.  The week started with the clockmakers arriving at our Alfreton Road works and unloading their vans so that equipment, such as harnesses and other safety apparatus, could be tested by external adjudicators. Once again, it’s been a busy few weeks both in our Derby works and across our various sites in the UK. Here’s just a few things we have been doing. Installation and Servicing So far, the team have serviced an average of 92 clocks per week in 2019 and installed jobs in Oman, Qatar, Ireland and across the UK. In the News this Autumn at Smith of Derby

On Saturday 6th of October we welcomed over 50 visitors to our Derby works from the Turret Clock Group, of the Antiquarian Horological Society (AHS). The group promotes knowledge about turret clocks, with a wider role of encouraging the study in all matters relating to the art, history and measurement of time. The AHS also conduct important research, along with encouraging the preservation of both horological and associated arts across the county.
