Smith of Derby build, install and maintain architectural and landmark public clocks, with our work spread throughout the UK as well as worldwide. Our family of clock making companies includes four of the most reputable names in British Horology with centuries of experience in making and restoring public time.

At 48 Leicester Square we have worked with Make Architects to supply and install the set of four 1.6m diameter illuminated clocks which crown each corner of the building. Each bronze effect case houses a synchronous drive timekeeping unit and low-energy lighting in the form of LEDs. The timekeeping units are interlinked to a dedicated control system with power failure backup and programmed summer/winter time changeover, ensuring timekeeping accuracy and synchronisation.

Being a prime London location, 48 Leicester Square is a key site for Smith of Derby, one of many throughout the London area. We have recently installed or renovated several landmark clocks in Central London, including the complete redesign and rebuild of the Swiss Glockenspiel which stands right beside the LSQ Building. Together with the restored 22 Regent Street timepiece and Little Ben at Westminster; the exterior clock with illuminated chapters at Salisbury Square off Fleet Street; the startling 4.8m diameter rotating globe at the nearby London Coliseum and the great clock at St Paul’s Cathedral, we are proud to include 48 Leicester Square as one of our landmark projects.
