St. Thomas’ church clock dials are given timely repairs

January 9, 2015 Heritage, News

The clocks that adorn the Church tower at St Thomas’ are currently being repaired by specialists for the first time in their 112 year history.

A campaign was set up earlier in the year to raise the £18,500 needed for the clocks to be repaired after they fell into disrepair.

ST-THOMAS-clock-repair-NEWSSpecialist clock repairers Smith of Derby are now working on the clocks and they’re due to be returned to the tower in February 2015, weather permitting.

On Sunday 7 December, the Church welcomed the committee of the Guru Nanak Gurdwara in Wednesfield, who presented Rev’d Nick Watson with a cheque for £500, towards the repair.

Revd Nick Watson commented:

In an age where there is so much publicity around religious divisions, I am delighted to welcome the committee of the Guru Nanak Gurdwara to St Thomas’ Church. We are very grateful to them for their generosity. This is a real help in our final stages of fundraising for repair of the clock. It’s great that our neighbouring buildings for worship are landmarks in the centre of Wednesfield, and we hope that our Sikh friends will be able to join us in celebrating when the clock is restored and working again.
