Derby Roundhouse Clock
Derby , England.
The Derby Roundhouse turret clock is an iconic feature in a unique structure. Built in 1839 by Robert Stephenson, the Derby Roundhouse is the World’s first steam engine repair and service workshop. The name is derived comes from the colossal turntable used to manoeuvre the locomotives in to position.
Smith of Derby restored the beautiful 1840 John Whitehurst ’Arm Chair Strike’ timepiece under the watchful eye of English Heritage. As well as modern restoration techniques the latest technology was applied to the 170 year old clock to ensure that the clock is automatically wound and is kept permanently to GPS time through our automatic winding system.
Using our Auto-wind units and pendulum regulator (designed specifically to fully comply with conservation rules) we have ensured that this historic timepiece will be as accurate now as it will be for future generations. This award winning project has been noted as one of the top twenty clock restoration projects in the UK.
