British luxury watch brand Bremont has recently been named Official Time Partner to Donington Park for the next 8 years and in spectacular fashion has collaborated with Smith of Derby clockmakers to unveil a stunning double-dialed, 1.2 metre, bespoke projecting clock that protrudes over pit lane.
Donington Park hosts the British Touring Car Championship, World and British Superbikes Championship, the Donington Historic Festival and the Classic Motorcycle Festival amongst many others and is one of the UK’s most popular racing circuits. As the UK’s most popular racing circuit, Donington Park turned to Bremont – Britain’s most luxurious watch brand. Bremont has won ‘Luxury Watch Brand of the year’ at the UK Jewellery Awards for the last three years and the brand remains true to its original principles of durability, legibility, and precision. The company has been influential in revitalising the British watch industry, which was once the dominant place for watch-making.
This particular project, however, called for a timepiece slightly larger in scale. With that in mind, Bremont enlisted our design and clockmaking team to provide the expertise in electro-synchronous movements while bringing an amazing tradition of making many iconic feature clocks worldwide.
Giles English, the Co-Founder of Bremont expressed that, “This is a very exciting, long term partnership for Bremont and one that further builds on our ties within the automotive world having collaborated with the likes of Jaguar and Norton. Donington Park is an iconic British venue with international acclaim which has a huge history; Ayrton Senna’s first lap at Donington in 1993 was destined to become the most famous in Grand Prix history when he passed five cars to lead the field and win the race. Bremont is now incredibly proud to be part of this new chapter at Donington and delighted to be working with Smith of Derby on the project.”
Chistopher Tate, Managing Director of Donington Park Racing Limited added “The design exactly matches Bremont’s fine range of watches, as well as matching the aspirations of the ‘new’ Donington Park, which combines its great history and traditions with also leading the way in new motorsports technology.”
The design of the clock incorporates aircraft style fixers around the drum and bezels to reflect Bremont’s aviation DNA, and the support bracket of the clock was designed to emulate the wishbone suspension of formula racing cars, to reflect its location.
When asked about the collaboration and manufacture of the public clock, Martin Butchers – Technical Sales Engineer said that “we are delighted that it will be seen and enjoyed by race goers around the world.”
