Derby Roundhouse
Built in 1839 by Robert Stephenson, the Derby Roundhouse is a unique structure - the World’s first steam engine repair and service workshop. The name comes from the colossal turntable used to manoeuvre the locomotives. Smith of Derby restored the beautiful 1840 John Whitehurst ’Arm Chair Strike’ timepiece under the watchful eye of English Heritage.

As well as modern restoration techniques Smith of Derby have applied the latest technology to the 169 year old clock to ensure that the clock is automatically wound and is kept permanently to GPS time.
