The Guildhall clock projects over the busy Guildford high street. But few know exactly how this ancient timepieces works or that modern technology is being used in oto keep it ticking 24/7. Health & Safety dictated that regularly manually-winding the projecting clock was a dangerous exercise so Smith of Derby’s Technical Engineer Martin Butchers was called in to provide a solution. The caged clock, built in the 16th century, was never originally designed to work with electro-mechnical equipment.
